Eye brow shaping

Eyebrows: wax? thread? tweeze? shave? microblade?nothing?
If you wonder, then ask. Your beauty professional should be happy to give you the 411 on the different procedures. Most often, less is more. It doesn't take a lot of hair removal in order to change the look that you have. I suggest starting out gently and evolve to the method that suits you best.
This is actually an old post that I left in my drafts, but the info remains the same. Also, as important as a tweezer is a brush. One of my favorite is the brush from Anastasia of Beverly Hills, which has a firm angle brush on one end for applying a brow color of one choice or another (read below) and a spoolie brush on the other end to groom and finish the brow.
It's important to choose a color that is suitable not just to your brow's hair color but to your skin as well. Typically a tape shade will work well with nearly all but the darkest hair colors. You need to go darker when you have darker hairs and skins. You aren't trying to match the hair color when you are filling in brows, rather think of it as casting a shadow on the skin beneath the brows. I like Anastasia of Beverly Hills Duo in Taupe, and MAC Omega eyeshadow. Anastasia of BH also makes a great fine pencil called Brow Wiz. There are many choices available, so you can certainly begin by using something that you have, like a brown or taupe eyeshadow or light color (and very sharp) pencil. Begin application around the arch of the brow and feather it to the end, and then work in reverse toward the beginning of the brow (near the bridge of the nose.) This will prevent making your brow look like a tadpole - too heavy at the bridge and fading out at the ends - especially if you have chosen too dark of a color. Whether you use a pencil or a brush and powder (or gel) use a light flicking motion angling upward and across. And also think about the upper edge of the brow when you begin. This will give a more lifted look to your eye area. Regardless of the method that you use to apply I suggest always following the application with the spool end of a brush. This will help to set and smooth the brows. You can also use a clear mascara or brow gel to set them though the old school trick was to use an old toothbrush and pears glycerine soap Just don't add water :)

Beautiful Generosity

During the Covid-19 pandemic I, like most of us, have found time to do long avoided or ignored projects, tasks, and then some. I have been nearly as busy as when I am working - just in different ways. And I have observed that even though there are many stressors for each of us, I see a lot of relaxed and refreshed faces.
I am a licensed hairdresser. A beautician. I work alone in a licensed salon that is on my home property. I see clients by appointment only and most often one at a time. I have been in this location since 2003. I have been licensed since 1986. And except for my very first year or so, I have always worked alone. I attend workshops and industry events which are always inspiring. This leads me to the subject of this post:
On May 4 2020 I began a series of online classes with Sassoon Academy. They were offering these classes for free and I will be forever grateful. The technique training and the generosity that has been shown by this offer is extraordinary. It was a week to start with and now it has been ongoing. I have learned a ton, I have practiced in house, and I have been made to feel a part of a larger community.
Although I do love the business model that I have created, I am very much enjoying the feeling of connection that I have with this dynamic group. I have improved my skills as well as my commitment to my profession. I appreciate all of the support that i am receiving from my clientele, many of whom are friends.

Once again I am finding this post in my drafts. It's a nice post so although it is past the time that it was written, and much has happened since then, I am adding it to my blog.

I am enjoying these days in the salon. What a great crowd of people. Super interesting subjects of conversation and such fun hair doing. It is Spring and I'm gearing up for ANCA Buyer Days in Saratoga Springs, NY. See you there!
